Erik SchmidtI don't know anything much about castles in the Algarve.
Here is a detailed map; http://www.algarve-info.com/images/detailed-algarve-map.jpg

It looks like a copy of the typical autoclub maps which are published for most countries. I would suggest you try to find one to take with you or buy it there. Many of the better maps, including autoclub maps show castles and such. Good book shops or travel shops might stock one.

If you have the time, surf the web to look for castle in the area that you may want to visit. Sometimes the castles are named on the map and you can look the names of the castle or any adjacent village or town up on the internet.

I hope you have a great trip. I would love to see any castle pics you care to share when you get back.

Erik

PeterA handfull of excellent sites in the south of the country, starting from west to east;
Sth. of Vilo do Bispo you have;
S. Vincente
Beliche
Sagres
There is 'Lagos' near Ponte da Piedade,
'Silvas' north/east of Portimao,
and on the far eastern border with Spain we have Castro Marim, near Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
There are also many coastal towers worth seeing. Get in the local Tourist Office, there maps have them marked up. And they are normally FREE !
